November 2014

conway|rees has been appointed by a number of new clients requiring professional advice on dealing with local authority enforcement actions. In each of these cases Planning Permission was legally required for the developments carried out, but never applied for. As planning Law has changed substantially in recent years, and is indeed ever changing, it can be very difficult keeping up to date with all of these amendments. conway|rees strongly recommends seeking professional advice (often a simple phonecall to the local Planning office or consulting the online Planning Portal) prior to carrying out any proposed works. Remedial works, retrospective applications and court proceedings can be considerably more expensive than seeking professional advice from the start.

This month Jonathan has travelled extensively working on new SEAT CI concepts for motor retailers in Plymouth, Oxford and Leicester. Design proposals will be submitted shortly for Factory approval in Barcelona.

This month Planning Permission has been approved by Ipswich Borough Council for the proposed new funeral service venue designed by conway|rees on behalf of Southgate and Roberts Funeral Directors.

October 2014

Planning Permission has now been submitted on behalf of Southgate & Roberts Funeral Directors for a new funeral service venue to be located near the centre of Ipswich.  The non-denominational facility will offer a modern yet sensitive and welcoming environment.

Planning Permission has been granted for various alterations to the Waverley Hotel, Thorpe Bay.  The proposed changes include completely remodelling the ground floor to offer new kitchen and dining facilities and improved en-suite facilities to the second floor bedrooms.

conway|rees have been commissioned to provide full construction detail design for an agricultural barn conversion at Hartford End, Felsted. Planning Permission for the development was approved by Uttlesford District Council on 22 October 2014. The proposals include stabilising the existing brick and timber structure and converting it to form modern office accommodation with associated parking facilities.

September 2014

On the 10th of September Jonathan passed his professional assessment held at the headquarters of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists at 297 City Road, London.  This was the culmination of several years of work and the practice conway|rees now has two Chartered Architectural Technologists.

August 2014

Building regulations consent has been approved for a major refurbishment of the Beaches Hotel in Thorpe Bay.  The existing hotel has been completely stripped out and completely reconfigured from the ground upwards.  Bedrooms will be enlarged with generous new en-suites.  Balconies are being added to the second floor bedrooms to take advantage of the spectacular sea views.  On the ground floor there will be a complete new dining room and kitchen.  To the rear of the hotel a new manager’s apartment is to be constructed.
